Tim Ridulfo, Michael Quilter and Nick Maggs' road trip
WHY waste precious alcohol money on a bed that won't be used? Best mates Tim Ridulfo, Michael Quilter and Nick Maggs borrowed Michael's mum's car for the road trip of a lifetime.

Loaded with luggage, the car has acted as a mobile bedroom for three, as well as others who find themselves bedless along the way.

On Saturday the boys continued up the coast to Surfers Paradise for the last leg of a three-week adventure, having already conquered Coffs Harbour and Byron Bay.

With their feet out of the front windows and one stretched across the back seat on top of the mass of luggage, the boys have contrived a careful arrangement to allow the four-seater to sleep three.

They said they had averaged about four hours sleep a night.

"But you do wake up pretty sore," Mr Quilter explains.

Listing the items bundled in a mass of mixed, wet clothing, Quilter points out a speargun for fishing, snorkelling gear and football, all of which have not been used. Somewhere underneath is a mattress and a tent, also unused.

"Then we've also got 8.8 litres of goon and a couple of bottles of spirits, biscuits, six litres of orange juice and the Esky."

They have survived on biscuits, plain pasta and a container packed with lollies, supplied by mum, that has never been far from reach.

"Mum's lollies have saved us," said Ridulfo.

Having been kicked out of three motels without a booking, the boys got lucky this week when three girls they met traded some of their rented floor space for red bull drinks.

"It meant we got our first proper sleep last night,"said Quilter

"We realised pretty early on that we did need some sleep."

Preparing for their last night in Byron Bay on Friday, the boys said schoolies has exceeded expectations.

"We're going to remember this forever," said Quilter.
